家园 我有同样的感受 总觉得宗教人士比政工人士还高尚些。
赵括说的历史很有意思，现在美国的教徒，还有不少脑子里有十一税的框框呢，应该是那时候的残留。

家园 religion这个词在英语中的本意就是思想控制 这大概也是西方的传统文化中的一部分，因此他们的教徒正面看是虔诚，反面看是偏执。十字军东征这样的事情在中国是不会出现的。“异教徒”在中世纪的可比现在的“反革命”严重得多。中国神话里孙悟空大闹天宫后如来佛会来救驾，如果伊斯兰教的孙悟空闹了天宫，基督教的神肯定是来落井下石趁火打劫。
中世纪的基督教并不是单纯的信仰，实际上是个政治组织，它继承的是罗马帝国。十一税的征收，文化教育的垄断，教区的划分和罗马行省几乎一模一样，没有教籍就不能担任公职等等，基督教牵扯了太多的利益。大概正是利益驱使它严格，而它的严格又导致了教徒的虔诚。
家园 religion好像没有赵兄说的意思吧 查Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary里的词源和定义，都没有控制人的意思，主要是指承认有神存在，或存在能控制人的命运的力量。。。的行动、感情、仪式等等的。

家园 教徒的虔诚在现在西方国家已经不多见了. 每个星期都按时去教堂的不多(中国人除外).
家园 也正因为对这种力量的反动，产生和强化了后来西方文明中宗教自由，思想自由 政教分离等思想体系。
