became a "啥玩意儿" / "野鸡大学" ?
The university was established in the Washington D.C. by an Act of Congress on February 24, 1893. Its history is longer than most of the "formal" universities in China.
I met several friends from this Univ. when I was in D.C. and enjoyed very much the public radio station (affiliated with NPR National Public Station) operated by AU.
