The House of Tan Yeok Nee now enjoys a new lease of life as the Asian campus for the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

The House of Tan Yeok Nee (Chinese: 陈旭年宅第 or 陈旭年大厦) is a mansion building located at the corner of Penang Road and Clemenceau Avenue in the Museum Planning Area in Singapore. Today, the building is being used as the Asian campus for the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

资政第的由来：

陈旭年又名陈毓宜，潮州人，出生于1827年。为了摆脱贫困，早年从潮州南来东南亚贩卖纺织品。以后，他也在柔佛种植胡椒和香料，并且成为港主。1850年代，陈旭年已崛起成为收购胡椒甘蜜的殷商。这期间他联同章芳琳和陈成宝成为星洲、廖内远至马六甲一带大烟和私酒业收益的主要操纵者。1853年 ，他与陈万泰联名取得了马西贡一带的港契 ，成为柔佛的一名港主。1870年，柔佛苏丹受委他华人社会的最高领袖－华侨侨长，领丞相勋衔。

1870年，陈旭年折资在家乡金砂斜角头，兴建“从熙公词”，陈旭年 从柔佛移居新加坡时，从潮州请去工匠并运去原材料，按从熙公词的现格和式样，在克里门梭路和槟榔路间建成，被该国列为国家第五古建筑的“资政第”。1984 年6月，新加坡以这座当地仅存的潮式古建筑物理图印发了邮票。这不仅是陈旭年家族光荣，也使华人引以自豪。

资政第的建筑非常精巧细腻，体现了潮州工匠高超的手艺，被国家列为受保护的建筑文物，并由潮州聘引手艺高超的木雕、石雕、彩绘、木匠等技师，使得翻新修缉的工作做得非常完善，当年获得古建筑修复工艺大奖。

陈旭年晚年告老回乡，颐养天年，75岁卒于故里。

Winning Awards and Accolades

Eighty-one recipients of the Nobel Prize have been students, researchers, or faculty here. Since 1979, 12 of Chicago’s faculty have been honored with the prize—three in physics, eight in economics, and one in literature. Our creative writers and scholars have recently won the Pulitzer prize, the National Medal of Science, the Grammy award, and the MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant, among other major awards. Even undergraduates have the opportunity to study with a Nobel laureate here.

“If the first faculty had met in a tent, this still would have been a great university,” said President Robert Maynard Hutchins, the University’s fifth president, in his 1929 inaugural address.

The first faculty assembled on Opening Day, 1892, were indeed an impressive bunch: lured from colleges all over the country, they had been drawn to Chicago by the idea of a community of great scholars. As Charles O. Whitman, who left Clark University to head the biology department at the new institution, enthusiastically put it, “The time has now come when we must recognize and live up to the necessity for greater organic unity among kindred sciences.”
