Not overestimate the those techniques. It does not require very very intellegent people. I remembered in 2005 or 2006, a German boy (17 yeras old) invented a new virus and this visus successfully crashed down more than 1/3 windows machines of the whole States. I remembered my boss at that time gave such comments about this famous event, "This is like you drive a car in high way with high speed, and suddenly switch the tranmission to backward, certainly you broke the car." His classmates were those pioneers who implemented software(written in Fortran)for the UK jet fighters. Later they were punished by KGB of Soviet Uion.
