Samsung showed off the world’s largest LCD TV this year, an 82-inch monster that currently ranks as the world’s largest (and totally blows away the previous title holder, a 65-inch LCD TV from Sharp), at least until LG or whoever decides to spend a few hundred million in R&D to top them with an 85-inch or 100-inch LCD TV. Won’t go into production for another 10 months, which is probably for the best since you’re going to probably need at least a year and half of scrimping and saving to even have a shot at affording this bad boy. The Continuum Audio Caliburn turntable and Cobra tonearm were marvels of engineering excellence. Novel shape optimization technology was used as a design platform. This software-based system throws the rule book out the window and calculates the theoretically ideal shape for any given application (as you can see the arm is different from anything you’ve seen). It’s a very interesting design concept that has never been used before in audio.
