Rockets center Yao Ming was helped off the court in obvious pain Saturday with a bruised right knee.

Yao, the NBA Western Conference player of the month in November and in his best scoring run of his career since, caliber run, was helped off the court on Saturday when he injured his right knee in a collision with Los Angeles Clippers forward Tim Thomas at Toyota Center.

Thomas had driven on Shane Battier and into Chuck Hayes, who moved in to try to draw a charge. Yao had come over to try to block a shot, but Thomas crashed into Yao's right knee.

Yao immediately fell to the floor and grabbed his right knee, rolling on the court. He was still shaking in pain as Rockets athletic trainers Keith Jones and Missy Legett attended to him.

Yao was helped off the court by Jones and guard Bonzi Wells and will not return to the game.

The 7-5 center was taken for an MRI exam.
