First, some geographical background for those who has never been, or pretended he has been, in Kashgar; This incident on the morning 8AM was happened in front of Yiquan Hotel (怡金宾馆) that located on Seman Road (色满路) in northwest part of Kashgar. Yiquan Hotel is a small two-story local hotel with no star rating. The big tall 12 story high building of “Kashgar Public Safety Border Patrol Branch” (喀什公安邊防支隊) is in the back-to-back of the Yiquan Hotel and its main entrance is on Yunmulakxia Road (not on Seman Road). You won’t miss the huge tall building because there is a huge antenna tower at the top of this 12-story building.

Now, let the fun begins;

According to New York Times:

“The three witnesses said they had seen the events from the Barony Hotel, which sits across the street from a compound of the People’s Armed Police, …”,… “All three dashed to the window in the photographer’s room,…”

First, the Barony Hotel (塔西南邦臣酒店) is neither located “across the street from a compound of people’s …” nor across the street from the Yiquan Hotel where the incident actually happened, even it is on the same Seman Road as Yiquan Hotel is. How these three foreign tourists and “witnesses” took the picture from their hotel window is beyond anyone’s imagination.

Second, how these three foreign tourists had convinced all the armed paramilitary policemen involved in the action to change the color of the uniform from grey to green in that particular morning is, again, beyond anyone’s imagination. (“li-si” indicated the same issue couple of comments before)
