我十几年前被他的第一本书吸引，是因为他明显是想用社会科学的研究方法，去解释或者强行解释一个无法用科学解释的东西 - 这旁证了他田野调查收集素材的可信度。虽然这些素材决定了他的研究成果无法被学术界接受。

读完了他所有的作品（可惜没有找到中文版），我认为中国道教的源头（也就是闻一多怀疑可能存在的古道教），应该就是流传于北亚和北美的萨满教。萨满教是一种原始原生的史前信仰，其历史至少是一万年。石头布说中华民族的人文始祖曾经生活在北亚，他的立论可能是成立的。成吉思汗对丘处机的一见如故和青睐，可能是因为道教和萨满共同的精神内涵（成吉思汗虽然还没有机会认识藏传佛教的欢喜佛，他接触过伊斯兰教这种与萨满不会有任何共鸣的次生宗教）。

萨满教及其后裔或旁支道教，认为不同的时代也是可以跨越的洋葱皮。那位博士描述了一个萨满人物（不排除是道教某位神仙原型的可能性），据说活了一万多年，虽然活得可能比较乏味（他把自己放进了一个似乎是没有时间慨念的梦境里）。当他偶尔回到这个世界度假的时候，他可以选择出现在不同的时间点上。据说他目前比较欣赏南欧的地中海气候和文化氛围。或者，明朝或宋朝江南的气候和文化氛围，也符合他或者他朋友的品味，谁知道呢。
