Life’s odd, random journey to what do I compare?

‘Tis like in snow a swan goose happens to tread:

Whither its footprints wander the bird is hardly aware,

For its flight must surely over strange lands spread.

The monk our host of yore now in a tomb does sleep,

Whilst long’ve faded the scribblings we put on his walls.

The memory of that tortuous trip you ought still keep?

And of our bones weary amid the donkeys’ whiny calls.
