Some German philosopher declared "God is Dead" soon after. The rich Americans celebrates "roaring 20s" with booze and jazz. The desperately poor working class led by ambitious intellectuals who call themselves commies are in fashion everywhere.

Similar to the paintings, classic music is also toast, the musicians are in no mood to write pleasing and smooth melodies and well balanced, well structured sonatas, symphonies any more. Typical example is Stravinsky -- "the Rite of Spring", great master piece no doubt about it, but you cannot say it is pleasing to the ear. To hear Stravinsky , it is not like you are in the Golden Hall of Vienna dress in tux anymore, but thrown back into wilderness that the fa?ade of civilizations is stripped away.
