We should never have been doing business with a communist regime in the first place. All of the economic theorists assume everyone is playing by the same rules. China is a psuedo-western economic dictatorship (you can bet the Chinese will not be reading this post in China). They have only been interested in our type system to keep their peasants employed so they can stay in power. Now that a bubble burst (which is part of the cycle and how we learn and improve our system) and a downturn doesn't meet their objectives, they will likely turn militaristic and further a militaristic foreign policy to keep their subjects happy. China's gov't views the US as THE primary threat to their existence. I am not interested in hearing from those with Bush Deranged Syndrome about how the US has been doing that for years because it only shows further evidence of those that foolishly believe there is moral equivalency between freedom and dictatorships. Let hope Obama doesn't apologize to the Chinese.

The US needs to get extracted economically from dictatorships world-wide, starting with China. There are enough democratically elected govts world wide to support free trade. It should also be a requirement to have a seat at the table and partake of our economies. In this last election the biggest issue is going to be foreign policy. How well the US can identify threats will determine how well we can position to respond to them. Good luck to the new administration in trying to charm our adversaries into seeing things our way. I wish them the best of luck but I am afraid the US is being incredibly naive. This will not be the last that we hear from the Chinese。

The party is over.

So what if China unloads, after the pain is over, it is of benefit to the US. "They both need each other", but at what cost ? China becoming more like the US (living standards wise) which is fine, but pushing the American way of life to Chinese levels is not. And that is precisely what is happening. The consequences are dismal, even for those misguided US capitalists, that benefited and thought that this is sustainable. The party is over.

The Chinese were not complaining when Americans still had jobs and thus money to buy tchotckes from them, and they still believed they would get positive returns on investments, it was still the same system and they participated in it and wanted to profit from it. Hypocrites! In fact all these countries that were licking their lips and drooling over their financial positions in 2006 and are now upset because things went bad and are pointing fingers to the US are being hypocritical.

Is Jiabao just now finding out how the system worked? Please gimme a break, they've gotten physicist spies into Los Alamos, can't tell me they didn't know how things worked? 其实也不能怪他们,毕竟现在这套制度(无论美国还是中国)

都太复杂了,尝试改变都是必要的,可惜成王败寇.

我倒是觉得,次贷这种回笼资金的方式,可能会在几十年后被重新包装再用一次,然后它的影响应该会是在百年这个级别的时间长度里----当然,我觉得,它可能还会多次造成创伤,不过至少会有一次,大家能够掌握它,创造新的货币乘数理论值.

当然,也可能在那之前,全世界转向科学社会主义,开始计划经济,谁说得准呢....
